Well we are 1/2 way done. I am finally feeling much much better! Only small bouts of nausea now and then, and I am not so tired anymore! Both Pat and Alex are enjoying having mom back to normal, there have been more suppers made, cleaner clothes and no sounds of throwing up coming from the bathroom!
We went for our ultrasound today! I was anxious and nervous from the moment I woke up this morning. Up until today I had no fears that something would be wrong with him/her but today it hit me like a brick wall, "what if there was something wrong?" So it really got me thinking and worrying. Finally 1:00pm hit and my name was called and I worked very hard on calming down. The technician was a very nice woman who wasn't mad at all when my bladder wasn't full. I hadn't gone to the bathroom for over 2 hours and had drank a XL coffee & bottle of mugs root beer! So the poor technician had to work around the whole bladder thing, then our little monster was curled up in "the corner". Monster was obviously asleep and in no mood to wake up! So try as she might the technician couldn't get the best of pictures, and couldn't see the legs or feet (don't worry they are there!).
"So you probably can't tell if its a boy or a girl then?" I asked, very disappointed by the way!
"Oh no I got a glimpse of that!" She said knowingly.
"Oh don't tell me until my husband is here!"
So I had to take a walk, in hopes of getting the monster to move. I went and brought Pat and Alex back to the ultrasound room. The technician had to consult with the doctor (don't worry everything is fine!). So she came back in and "Monster" had moved a little bit! She was able to get some better pictures of the head and face. We saw 2 perfect leg, 2 feet, 2 arms, 2 hands, lots of fingers, a very nicely shaped head, a nice looking spine.
She was also very surprised to get another look at the "money" shot! And guess what she saw? Our little boy!!! Yep you read it right, we are having a boy! Both Pat and I were stunned (we would have been stunned if it was a girl too lol). It make it so much more real for us to put a name and a gender to the creature in my tummy!
So now that we know I can start organizing all of Alex's old clothes. They will be spending some time in storage until we find out if Des is having a girl, and then they will be sold! But we get to get a whole bunch of blue stuff! In fact, right after we got out of the ultrasound I made Pat drive to the mall and we went and bought "Smokin' Joe" his coming home outfit. I damn near cried while looking through all the blue & green stuff! So he got some new clothes already!
Alexandria is very excited to be having a little brother. She even knows his name and yells it proudly! And the proud big sister had a wonderful birthday on Saturday. We, along with Des and Matty went to the water park, where Alexandria loved the kiddy pool and all the other water stuff going on. But she did not like the wave pool. So we took turns, Pat and Matty would watch Alex while she played in the dolphin pond, while Des and I braved the "huge" waves in the wave pool. Then Des and I would play with Alex and Pat and Matty would go on the water slides. They went on some very crazy slides. One was damn near straight down, both said they didn't even touch the slide for the first 30 feet, and another was like a huge toilet that you were shot into and swirled around and around until you dropped out the bottom into a deep pool.
So after the water park we went to Galaxyland where the arcade was the big hit. Alex loved to get all the tickets after we won at all the games. She also like the merry-go-round, but thought the tunnels on the train too scary!
It was a great day, filled with lots of great memories. Pat is on holidays for the next week so we get to spend lots of quality time with Daddy all week long!
Lots of love!

Week 17 (Almost 18)
Well the birthday party is finally over! It was a wonderful, yet exhausting day! Alexandria had so much fun with her friends, Aunts, Uncles, Grandma's & Grandpa. She recieved so many beautiful and thoughtful presents, all of which are her favorite, or so she claims. She was very excited to introduce her friend Alyssa to her cousin Connor, she even told him that Alyssa was her best friend. Connor didn't seem that interested or impressed ;) So yes we are happy the party is over, it was so much work, but it was totally worth it.
We are excited for Alexandria's actual birthday to come. We are taking her to Edmonton and going to Chucky Cheese (that may change depending on our tolerance levels) and then to the water park at West Ed. Alex is very excited to be going swimming, mom and dad are not so excited. I'm dreading looking for a bathing suit. And Pat is just plain dreading going swimming. But I know we will have a blast.
Both Alex and I had doctors appointments today. It was her 3 year check up. Other than her not sleeping I had no concerns. She now weighs 28 pounds (up from 25 last September) and is an astounding 37 inches tall (up from 32)! And its all in the legs. I had a sad moment today as I was marking her height and weight on her growth chart and noticed that 3 years was when they stopped recording such things. Made me pause and look back over the past 3 years and look at how much my baby has grown!
She had gained 20 pounds and grown 18 1/4 inches since the day she was born! The growth chart is a mash of ups and downs, no steady straight curve for our little first born. She, just like her growth chart, is a mash of ups and downs. There is no medium ground for Miss. Calon. She is either happy as happy can be or pissed off at the world. She smiles at everyone she sees and calls all new children (anyone under 17) she meets, her best friend! She gets so excited when she pee's or poop's in the potty. And loves her new brother or sister to the ends of the earth. And the other side of the coin is the child who yells at her dog for sniffing her toys "BRUCE NO THATS MY TOY!! GET OUTSIDE NOW!!!!" Yells at the top of her lungs at bed time "Ow I'm hurt I need help!" just in hopes of us letting her out of her room. And stomps around with her hands on her hips scolding her dolls and toys for some unknown crime. What a remarkable little person.
Enough of my reminising onto my doctor's appointment. I lost another pound :( Not much of a surprise since I haven't really regained my appetite yet. But it is getting better day by day. The babies heart beat was 148 BPM. "Oh that GIRL!" my mom exclaimed when told. Apparently she wasn't listening when I told her a month ago that didn't mean anything ;) But we are all waiting, very impatiently, for September 21st. My ultrasound is in the morning so as long as this little monster co-operates the boy or girl battle will be concluded and the results known when everyone gets home from work ;)
We still have a solid girl name (or I do at least). We are not even talking about a boy name. Every name someone suggests I shoot down "nope starts with a C" "nope starts with a K" "nope ends in a N" or just plain "ew I hate that one!" The book of 100,001 names has failed. I am still waiting for some good suggestions... (hint hint) ;) And since I shoot down all the names both Pat and his cousin Matt called the baby Smokin' Joe all August long! I'm very scared that if its a boy, Pat will fill out the forms in secret when I'm in the bath room or something. Smokin' Joe Calon... Oh gosh that gives me a fright ;)
Happy name hunting everyone!
