Well we are busy getting ready for the Christmas season. Our house is decorated inside and out, we have a good handle on the present buying, I had hoped to be done by now though, and Alex is talking non-stop about Santa, presents and cookies. We have been really busy this past week getting ready for a Christmas party we are hosting for a group of our close friends. It is this Saturday and we're getting very excited! There will only be 10 adults and 4 kids but for our little house that is more than enough.
I'm even making a turkey! This will be the second turkey I've made in my entire 28.5 years and I'm crossing my fingers for the same results as the first one. I am also making a broccoli & cheese casserole that my Grandma Mary made every time the whole family got together. I've never made it before so I'm prepared for it to go either way. And the really wonderful thing is... that is all I'm making!! Everyone is bringing something so it really lightens the load! Oh and I almost forgot the other great thing! We are going to be using our fancy china & silverware! It has only been used once in the five years we've had it so I'm very excited to set my table like a grown up. That is my plan anyways, Lisa did point out to me that they make very very nice paper plates, so I'll make my final decision tomorrow night and if I'm feeling tired and stressed well the china will take a back seat until Easter lol.
I went for my monthly prenatal this morning and was very please to have gained 3 pounds!!!! If only I could be this excited about gaining weight when I wasn't pregnant ;) Everything is good and right on track. Joseph is still head up and doing somersaults like crazy. But there is lots of time for him to turn. My tummy measurements are right on track as well. 29 cm for 29 weeks. We got to talking about how much bigger I am than when I was pregnant with Alex and Dr. Keller pulled up my prenatal chart from Alexandria. At 33 weeks I was measuring 27 cm and at 38 weeks I was at 33 cm. So I'm about 6 weeks ahead of my last pregnancy. Made me giggle to think about it. The nice thing is I probably won't have to go in for an ultrasound at 38 weeks to make sure everything is okay. I remember being horribly pregnant and laying on that bed, with a very full bladder may I point out! I was laying there suffering for 30 minutes until I told them "I have kidney & bladder problems and if you don't let me pee right now... I'll pee right now!" They were laughing at me, I was not!
But the measurement made me pause and think about how big I really am. Or rather, how big Joseph just might be!!! So that made me a little anxious and nervous. Alex was average size and almost every time, the second baby is bigger than the first!! Oh gosh I have to stop thinking about it lol.
Another good thing, Pat is going to be starting on Joseph's room in a week or so. Eric came over and reassured us its wasn't that big of a deal and we wouldn't have to take down as much drywall as we had first anticipated! So Eric figures it will take a day to do everything and he's going to help Pat do it too! We have such wonderful friends! Eric and his wife Amanda were also here last year helping us build our entire garage. I also have 3 walls primed and ready to paint, which I will probably do on Sunday. So by Christmas our little guys room should be all but done! I'm very excited to get to the point where we can wash and put Joseph's clothes in his closet and dresser. Alex is getting excited about it too. She is planning on putting everything away! No help is required from either Mom or Dad apparently. "I'll do it all. You and Dad can sit down" is what she tells me whenever we talk about anything to do with Joseph. She fully plans to do all the feeding, rocking, changing, bathing, playing, burping. And she doesn't hesitate to tell everyone her plans. It is so cute and reassuring. I worry about how she will take her new role, as the oldest. And I know there will be an adjustment period, but I hope all the positive attitude will keep the transition to a minimum!
Hopefully next week there will be some before and after pictures of Joseph's room. Hope everyone enjoys the last weekend in November!
Lots of Love

28 Weeks (12 to go!)
OK I'm starting to freak out just a little bit.
I'm not worried about labour, I'm preparing myself and it seems easier this time around because I know what to expect. I know its going to hurt like HELL but I also know when I get to hold him it won't matter how many hours it took to have him. I also know that time goes by so fast in there! 15 hours with Alex didn't really seem that long.
I'm not worried about bringing him home and the work of raising him. Again I know what to expect and have high hopes that things will be simpler and easier this time. If only because, just like labour, I know what to expect. So I know there will be no sleep, and for the first 6 weeks I'll have a hungry little guy who will be eating whenever he is awake. I have more experience this time so Joseph will have a soother in his mouth in the hospital, unlike with Alex, I will not be a human pacifier for poor little Joey. But I will be as committed to breastfeeding and hope that I am better prepared and have more experience so I won't have any problems this time.
So the real reason I'm freaking out... We are not ready for him! Emotionally, psychologically, mentally, we are ready in all those ways. But if the poor little guy were to be born tomorrow her would not have any clean clothes, no crib to sleep in, no diapers, no completed room, NOTHING!! I'm being compulsive and neurotic, I know this and try as I might I can't help it. With Alex I was 5 months pregnant and her room was completely set up. We had diapers waiting patiently, and clothes we had were perfectly washed with the right detergent. I remember with joy, sitting on the floor in her room, quietly going through all her little gadgets and nicknack's. Poor Joseph has some rubber maid containers and a garbage bag full of garbage in the middle of his floor. All his clothes are in rubber maid containers, all new ones still have the tags on them.
So we have established that I am nesting. Being at home all the time amplifies this instinct I think. I have to find a way to get past it because if I ask my poor overworked, overtired husband one more time "When are we going to start his room?" I'm sure he will lock me out of the house, or tape my mouth shut. So there has been no progress as of yet. Life is getting in the way of doing anything. Pat needs advice from his very smart carpenter friend and for the past month we've been trying to get together with him and his family. First Alex was sick with Croup, then Eric was sick, then Alex had her stomach virus, the H1N1 so every time we make plans they get canceled. But hopefully we will get together soon, not just because of the room though, also because we enjoy Eric and Amanda's company and we haven't had a visit with them since Alex's birthday party.
So to make myself useful and try to ease some of the nesting instinct crap I started some painting. Just painting the window trim white and fixing the paint spots on the ceiling. It didn't take me long but I felt better afterwards. I'm going to fill some holes tonight or tomorrow. And on Wednesday my very helpful and nice step-mom, Jo, is going to come over and help me paint. We can only do 3 walls, cause the other will be ripped down. But at least 60% of the room will be done! And when that is done I can hang some pictures and the window hangings too! Well I might have to wait until we are done the drywall work but it will give me something to look forward too ;)
Everything else is moving along quite nicely. I have to go in for my Rhogam injection sometime this week. Nothing serious its just a precaution because I have Rh-Neg blood and both Alex and Pat have A+ blood so that chances are Joseph will have A+ blood too. I am sad to report I still have not gained a pound :(. I go next Thursday for my prenatal so we will see how I measure week to week. Joseph is growing in leaps and bounds it seems. Well that's what my ever expanding stomach is telling me. If its even possible he is moving more and more every day!
There will be more ultrasound pictures on Thursday. Have a great week!

Our Little Infectious Disease!
Well with all the hype going around with H1N1 we knew that we'd come in contact with it soon or later. Well sooner happened. Poor little Alexandria was diagnosed on Tuesday November 3rd. It all came on very quickly, Monday she coughed in the afternoon like 4 times, not out of the norm for Alex, she likes to pretend to be sick ;) So when she woke up at 1:30 am Tuesday with a horrible hacking cough both Pat and I were sick with worry. She fell back asleep no problem but woke up at 6:00 am with the cough sounding even worse! Well Mom and Dad were freaking out! Because it came on so quickly we took her to the Lacombe hospital. Some might be saying, don't you live in Red Deer, why not take her to the Red Deer hospital. Well, Lacombe is where our family doctor is and the wait time in ER is a fraction of the time compared to Red Deer.
So we get to Lacombe Hospital and are waiting for the reception to open, the receptionist informs us since Alex has flu symptoms she has to put on a mask. Well poor little Alex looked so sad in her "way to huge adult mask". Finally we got to go to emerg where we are stuck in the back on a large examining room. The nurses were spending 5 minutes at the door of this room just getting geared up before stepping into it. We were the first of the quarantined patients, but more soon followed. Finally after waiting an hour a doc came, listened to her chest, looked down her throat and said "Just the flu, probably a bit of H1N1." and left...
Both Pat and I were thinking, a bit of H1N1?? What does that mean. So he just said, take her home, give her lots of fluids, Tylenol & Advil and sleep. If her breathing gets worse bring her back in. So we leave the hospital and I'm feeling like the worst person in the whole world! Only 2 days before we were at the shower (although the doc said she wasn't contagious then and what she had on Friday wasn't H1N1) and on Monday we seen my friend Alanna and her little girl Alyssa for like 15 minutes and Alex of course gave Alyssa a big old sloppy kiss on the lips!! I hated being "that mother"!! So I'm all worried about who's been infected and of course about Pat and I because both of us are in high risk groups. Obviously me cause of little Joey and Pat has asthma.
Well we make it through Tuesday with no huge events, just a little girl with a cough. No fever though, thank god! And we get through half on Wednesday with the same results, but then Pat comes home and Alex cough has gotten much worse and her breathing is pretty ragged! So I take her back to the hospital and it must have been our lucky day cause Dr. Keller was the on call Doctor!! Alex was so happy to see him and so was I! He checked her out and after listening really closely to her chest he says she might have pneumonia. He thought her symptoms a little to different from H1N1 to confidently say it was that. So poor poor Alex had to get chest x-rays and blood work. Both came back clear but Dr. Keller was still very concerned about her chest. He prescribed omoxycillion & Tamiflu, because it turns out, yep swine flu.
Alex was such a trooper through all of this, she smiled and tried to answer everyones questions, even though she had completely lost her voice :( Her sweet little chirp had turned into a squeaky raspy croak that can only be compared to a 70 year old lady who has smoked for 60 years! Her only real complaint was when they took blood, not a fan of that lady. And when she had to get x-rays the technician didn't notice right away that I was pregnant and I had to run from the x-ray room to get Grama, who was waiting in the examining room for us. So I had to leave my poor pooh alone with a strange woman for a full minute! Not a great minute I have to say.
This whole time poor Daddy is stuck at work, trying his hardest to leave. When a women complained very loudly that he couldn't fix her vehicle on her schedule, he informed her that his little girl was in the hospital and working on her car was not going to keep him from being with her! So Dad got there in time to be there to talk to Dr Keller. We are so very lucky that he is our doctor! He is honest and knowledgeable and all around a great guy. And when he told us what it was and what to expect it was nice to be able to trust what he was telling us and know that he is a great doctor.
So Wednesday night was a rough rough night. Pat was up with Alex all night long. She would start coughing and then couldn't breath so she would wake up in a panic. It was a very scary night for us both. The kind of night I would wish on no parent. You want to know everything will be ok but man its very hard not to think of what if? But we made it though and on Thursday she seemed to be feeling better. Her cough and her voice were no better but she was playing on the couch pretending to talk and mouth along the words to her movies. Thursday night was a little better, only a couple of wake ups and no panic attacks. Good thing cause it was Mom's night and I don't think I would have been strong enough to deal with that.
By Friday our little princess was trying to run around and jump and play. Resulting in horrible coughing fits. But a definite improvement. And today Alex woke up after an almost cough free night, even though an early crawl into Mom and Dad's bed seemed in order at 4 in the morning ;) She was talking in her almost normal voice, accompanied by the occasional squeak and rasp. Much better from the bare whisper she had been using.
So it is day 7 of exposure for Pat and I, and so far, cross your fingers, we seem to be clear. Alex is potentially contagious until Wednesday so the poor kid will miss dance and school again this week. Not sure how things are in everyone else's areas but I know in Lacombe, as of Wednesday, the only two serious cases they had seen were from a middle aged man who was sick a week before going to the hospital (we were in the exam room right next to him and he was so dehydrated they couldn't find a vein to get an IV in). And the other case was Alex, just because of her lungs. So we are very blessed that she came out just fine. And we thank the lord for protecting our family.
We hope you are all safe and healthy!

26 Weeks (14 to go)
Craft show- done, Halloween- done, baby shower- done! Lots of things to fit all into one weekend! We had originally planned to go to the craft show on Friday but poor little Alex came down with a quick and ferocious stomach virus. The poor kid couldn't keep anything down all Friday morning, but Grama showed up with some gravol, and saved the day. By the time Dad came home with watermelon and strawberries (all for his princess) she was about 75%. She never really got a fever just had an upset tummy. But by Saturday morning she was good as gold and was able to make a whirl-wind trip to the craft show. This was the first year I went by myself, not including Alex, so there was a plan of attack and we got in, bought all we had planned, and was out in about an hour. OK I said bought all we planned including a beautiful blue blanket with adorable robots on it, for Joseph! I tried so so so hard to resist but in the end the cute little robots were calling my name "oh Danielle be a good mommy and buy me for your little boy!!" Damn those robots!! But on the plus side I'm 1/4 done my Christmas shopping and I'm sticking to my budget!!
So on Saturday night was the super exciting HALLOWEEN!!! Alex was practically vibrating all day cause she knew when Daddy got home from moving Auntie and Uncle that we were going to get candy! So I was all organized and ready at 4:00 for all the monsters and princesses to come knocking on my door. I waited and waited... And waited!! It was a beautiful day, over 10 degree's, and I figures the kids would get an early start seeing that it was Saturday. But we still hadn't gotten any kids and the streets were empty when Pat got home and we went out with Ally. So we went to a couple of our friends houses, then went to Sobey's to pick up some stuff, where Alex got a glow stick! Probably her favorite Halloween treat. We then took a quick trip out to see Papa and Grandma Bridge. They were very excited to see Alex's rendition of the "Trouble Cow"! See puts her hands up like claws and moo's like... well a pissed off cow! The really nice thing about this year is Alex was very excited and anxious to wear her costume. Last year she was almost scared of her costume and would only stay in it for a couple of minutes. This year she wore it for about 4 hours and was more than happy to do it. She got lots of candy, which Mom and Dad are more than happy to "test", and seemed ok that Halloween was over.
On Sunday was the baby shower. My two best friends, Lisa and Des, worked so hard and threw Joseph a beautiful baby shower! The games were hilarious! We had to race to chug a bottle of juice, through a bottle nipple. Richard, me & Pats best friend, won hands down. Originally Pat had invited his friends over to our house to drink beer and watch sports while the shower was taking place, but on Sunday morning he came down with the same stomach thing that Ally had, poor guy! So since Richard and his fiance, Danielle, were coming all the way from Edmonton I told Rich to come to the shower. The next game we played was so gross but so awesome! Lisa took different chocolate bars and mashed them into diapers and we had to correctly guess which "poop" was which. The sad thing was, when I looked at these "poops" I can remember seeing all of them at one time or another in Alex's diaper! So gross!!!
As soon as we all feel better Pat's gonna have to start on Joseph's room! It's been a very very busy fall. Pat has been so busy at work he can barely stand when he gets home around 6:00. It's good that he is busy at work, that means money for us, but a break now and then is always in order. And to make Joseph's room an actual room is actually a pretty big undertaking. When we moved into our house, 2 years ago, that room was used as a laundry room. So where there should have been a closet was wide open and that's where the washer and dryer sat. We had to have an electrician come in and run the correct wiring upstairs to what was supposed to have been the laundry room. So after that was done we turned that room into a spare room/office. Well that only lasted a year and we decided we wanted another baby, which is all Lisa's fault! (Everyone around me was getting pregnant and I could have cared less, but when she got pregnant last summer I really really wanted to have another baby! Plus she thought it would be great if we were pregnant together!) So, back to my story, we decided to move the computers to the dining room and all my scrapbooking stuff to the laundry room. And it actually works really well. We don't have allot of space but we are learning how to make the best use of it all.
So in order to finish Joseph's room, Pat has to actually build a closet. So he has to rip down all the drywall in the closet area and re-frame. Then I thought it would be a good idea to take some of the closet space and make a linen closet, cause there is not a single place to keep towels in our entire house!! So Pat had to get some advise from his very smart carpenter friend Eric. We've been trying for a month to get together with Eric and Amanda, but either we're sick or their sick lol. So more patience is in order on my part. And even though I have never been known for my patience I guess I will find some somewhere! ;)
I'll post some pictures from Halloween and the shower when I have a little more time ;)
