The one month mark has come and gone and the long awaited first smile was bestowed upon Mommy on March 10 (23 days). What a wonderful sight it was! He was just finished eating and he looked up at me and smiled the sweetest smile! I was so excited that I spent almost an hour trying to get him to do it again. But I guess he was saving them all for Daddy because when he walked through the door there were grins galore from his biggest little fan. And even now I get the occasional smirk but every night, right after Pat comes home, he can get Joey to grin up a storm. Alex has also been know to pull a smile or two from her adoring little brother.
The eating thing is getting much better! Joseph has become a very efficient eater and only uses Mommy as a soother occasionally. The sleeping thing is hit and miss. He is still getting at least one good 4-6 hour sleep a night but he's hit and miss on the going back to sleep after that. Some nights he just wakes to eat and then right back to sleep. And other nights, like last night, he is up and fussing for hours. I'm glad he is over a month now because I feel less guilty about letting him cry a little bit. Not long though, only about 5-10 minutes, then he is usually good to nurse and fall back asleep. Except for last night, he was just in a tear and was up from 1:00am until 4:30, fussing, crying and in general being a miserable little monster. But its all part and parcel I guess and I am much better at dealing with this sleep deprivation that I was with Ally.
Joseph hit another cute little milestone on Monday, he started to coo. Well the noise is more of a "guuuu" but it is the most adorable sound! He even had quite a conversation with Grandma Martine yesterday at lunch. She was talking to him and he was responding "guuuu" to most of what she said.
Right now both of the kids are asleep and I'm looking around my disaster of a house just wishing I could snap my fingers and it would be clean and I could go to sleep. But I must have lost my genie powers years ago because the mess is going no where. So I'd better stop bragging up my boy and get a start on that cleaning.
